Petrana is an artificial personal assistant who talks to
the computer user in spoken English and operates computer applications for the
user easily, comfortably, and enjoyably, giving the user free use of his or her
hands and freedom of movement.
Petrana makes it easier for a person with a
disability -- such as a spinal cord injury, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, or any other condition that makes it difficult
or impossible to use the hands -- to operate a computer and to watch movies on
a computer. Petrana
can play DVDs, video CDs, compact discs, and Windows media files. Petrana
is an assistive technology that uses voice-recognition (speech-recognition) to
enable the computer user to operate the computer hands-free.
Petrana transforms a computer, computer
projector, and wireless microphone into a voice operated wall display computer,
the computer for the 21st-century. A
voice operated wall display computer can be used as a Home Theater System and
for many other uses including a control center for home automation and an
entertainment center. A voice operated
wall display computer is an assistive technology that can be used by persons
with a disability, including limited mobility, to make their lives more
enjoyable and more productive.
